WHAT IS THE CIPD?

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is the professional body for all those involved in the management and development of people. Currently there are more than 145,000 individual members, and achieving a qualification from the CIPD is now seen as a fundamental requirement for professionals in the fields of HR or L&D. Many organisations now view the CIPD Foundation Programmes as the “International HR Passport”.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
Before committing to the programme, you should be under no illusion about the commitment required. Studying at this level requires workshop attendance and a significant amount of self-study. In practical terms, this means you will be required to attend a number of workshop modules over an 18 – 24 month period. Additionally, you will need to invest approximately 600 hours of personal study time.

As well as having to sit two examinations, you will be required to conduct research resulting in a 7,000 word report on a work-based, practical, HR-related issue. You will also be required to complete a number of written reports as well as group-based practical assessment activities. Subject to approval, successful completion of the Level 7 Diploma will give partial exemption from a Master’s Degree in Strategic HRM. ‘Top-up’ to the Masters will require the completion of a dissertation. Oakwood offer guidance and help to those students who wish to take this route.

WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT OAKWOOD’S ADVANCED LEVEL 7 PROGRAMME?
Unlike a university or other HR Post-Graduate programmes, Oakwood’s students are selected on the basis of their professional attainment, not purely on academic qualifications. This means that our students will all be seasoned professionals with significant experience in the field of Strategic HR Management.

All our Faculty facilitators are already delivering Masters Level Programmes in UK Universities at the moment. Some are published authors in the field of HR. They can all claim Strategic HR Management experience as well as the highest levels of HR academic qualifications.

There will be a high level of interaction with learners, and a strong emphasis on the practical application of theory. A full range of the latest teaching methodology will be used, including electronic media. Guest speakers will feature at various points in the programme. Each student will be provided with guidance and mentoring as required, particularly covering examination preparation, and also the progress of their Research Report. Additionally all students will be given access to a ‘Virtual Learning Environment’ (VLE), which provides electronic versions of books, journals and periodicals essential for study and research on the programme. In addition, a core textbook will be provided for each of the eight subjects covered. Oakwood will also fund the CIPD registration fee and pay for two years’ CIPD subscription fees for each student.

AM I ELIGIBLE TO ENROL ON THE OAKWOOD PROGRAMME?
Oakwood will undertake a comprehensive ‘diagnostic’ process with each student. This will involve a review of your CV, Job Description(s) (where appropriate), an IELT test (where appropriate), and a telephone or face-to-face interview. The purpose of this is not only to show your ability to undertake the rigours of the programme, but to ensure the Level 7 programme is right for you.
