  • Setting objectives (SMART and other forms of objective-setting) and how these are used
  • Performance monitoring techniques
  • Giving feedback, including difficult feedback
  • Preparing for formal appraisal
  • Delivery of the formal appraisal with feedback from an experienced line manager/facilitator
